Seattle Public Library

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

The Seattle Public Library is on of the most unique buildings ever made and I wanted to create some cool photos of it. So, I called up Canon and had them send me a rather unusual lens. It is a 24 Tilt-Shift lens. It can control the plane of focus and perspective control. Basically, it has a couple extra knobs on the lens that can make things more in perspective (the top of the building doesn’t go to a point), or you cam make things look kind of wierd. I got it to play with fixing the perspective in architecture, but I ended up using it to make things look different, and what I think is kind of cool and artistic.

Downtown Seattle
This one was from the top of the parking garage where we parked. It was close to Old Navy and Gap where my wife wanted to shop! You can see the way the plane of focus is not quite square to the film plane making the top go way out of focus faster than it normally would with a conventional lens.

I’m not sure why these people had their garbage locked behind a chain link fence, but I like the image of the lock. Notice how the bottom left is in focus, but the top left is out of focus even though it is the same distance away from me. I’ll shut up with my lens geekiness now!
