Seattle Public Library
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008The Seattle Public Library is on of the most unique buildings ever made and I wanted to create some cool photos of it. So, I called up Canon and had them send me a rather unusual lens. It is a 24 Tilt-Shift lens. It can control the plane of focus and perspective control. Basically, it has a couple extra knobs on the lens that can make things more in perspective (the top of the building doesn’t go to a point), or you cam make things look kind of wierd. I got it to play with fixing the perspective in architecture, but I ended up using it to make things look different, and what I think is kind of cool and artistic.

This one was from the top of the parking garage where we parked. It was close to Old Navy and Gap where my wife wanted to shop! You can see the way the plane of focus is not quite square to the film plane making the top go way out of focus faster than it normally would with a conventional lens.

I’m not sure why these people had their garbage locked behind a chain link fence, but I like the image of the lock. Notice how the bottom left is in focus, but the top left is out of focus even though it is the same distance away from me. I’ll shut up with my lens geekiness now!

Thornewood Castle Wedding
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008
Here are some pictures at the Thornewood Castle from Dan and Saeko’s recent wedding. The Thornewood Castle is a fun place to shoot, especially because they have such cool gardens. Unfortunately, it was super cold and rainy, so we stayed indoors pretty much all day. Fortunately, it was still decked out with lights and Christmas decorations so it looked great.

Love this shot of Saeko getting ready.

And the groom.

They meet.

Okay, you’ve got to admit I’ve got skills :) How cute is she here, and looking at this picture, you would think it was taken on a sunny summer day.

The Castle. One day, I want to get a couple of those lions for my front door. How cool are those…..

I love this picture of the bride and her dad walking down the aisle. They both have such great emotion showing on their faces.

Ceremony.

The lighting in this room was seriously funky. There are about 5 colors of light hitting them from all the room lights and decorations. I love how the veil glows in this picture, it puts all the focus on the bride.

Congratulations!

Here’s one of those pictures that really works despite being in soft focus. I love all of the layers of action happening.

Yum! I should cook with toasted sesame seeds more often. They look so cool! The food looked amazing, catered by Snuffins Catering.

Sushi looks so cool if you light it right. I’m tempted to make a print of this for my wall at home. It’s edible art.

Toasting.

Dancing.
The kids could cut a little rug as well.
I could have posted a hundred pictures from this wedding, but I think I’ll stop here….. Thanks for looking. To see more of my work, please visit my website.
